Banyana Banyana players have been paid their bonuses for winning the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) title in Morocco last month.
The South African Football Association (SAFA), through president Dr Danny Jordaan, made the announcement in a press conference held at SAFA House on Friday to confirmed that all 23 Banyana Banyana players have been paid.
Prior to the in Morocco in July, SAFA had promised Banyana Banyana a whopping R9.2 million in bonuses if they won the title.
And Desiree Ellis’ charges didn’t disappoint as they went all the way to the final and lifted the trophy without suffering any defeat.
Now, the R9.2 million has been paid to every single player that traveled with Banyana Banyana to Morocco, meaning each player has pocketed over R450 000.
SAFA said the agreement with Banyana Banyana was that the payments would be made within 30 days of them winning the WAFCON trophy.
Meanwhile, the R5.8 million pledged by the Sport Department is yet to be paid. And Jordaan said SAFA will pay the players as soon as they receive the money.
