A group of about six climate protesters from Save Old Growth blocked southbound lanes on the bridge just after 7 a.m.

The human blockade caused a minor car collision and disrupted rush-hour traffic, said Vancouver Police.

“Demonstrators who block vital pieces of infrastructure, like bridges and major intersections, put themselves in danger and create a safety risk for the rest of the public,” said Const. Tania Visintin in a statement.

The protest didn’t last long. Vancouver Police officers cleared the protesters from the bridge. A 24-year-old woman was arrested on charges of mischief and intimidation on a roadway.

According to a news release and a video from Save Old Growth, some protesters were dragged off their lanes by frustrated commuters.

This is the group’s 10th protest in Vancouver in April.

Since January, 84 of its supporters have been arrested from B.C. highways in Vancouver, Revelstoke, Victoria and Nanaimo, said the group, which is calling for an end to old-growth logging in B.C.

Thursday’s bridge protest comes on the heels of another demonstration on the Malahat on Vancouver Island Wednesday. That protest blocked traffic for several hours and ended with two people being arrested.
