Mounties confirm a deadly shooting in the Walnut Grove area of Langley

Police have yet to confirm reports on social media that a man was shot and killed in the area of 202 Street and 88 Avenue.

Langley RCMP and IHIT are investigating a murder in a Walnut Grove strip mall.

Cpl. Holly Largy said a man has died of gunshot wounds at 202 Street and 88 Avenue. He was shot just before 2 p.m.

“Based on the investigative theory in this initial phase, this does not appear to be a random act,” Largy said in a news release.

“The area surrounding the scene will be cordoned off for a significant amount of time. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called and will be working in partnership with Langley RCMP.

“Police are currently in the evidence gathering phase, no further information will be provided at this time.”

Photos obtained by Postmedia of the scene show multiple ambulances, police vehicles and smashed cars. It is unclear if the victim was driving any of the vehicles.

The male victim’s body can be seen on the ground under a yellow sheet and surrounded by pylons not far from the Shark Club Bar and Grill. Yellow tape can be seen outside a running shoe store.
