Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy’s scrambling can help secondary develop

Last October, Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh began the postgame news conference after a win vs. Northwestern by describing an interception from cornerback DJ Turner: “one of the best interceptions I’ve seen all season and in recent memory.”

Turner had deflected a pass intended for wide receiver JJ Jefferson on a comeback route along the left sideline. He knocked the ball from between Jefferson’s hands, tipped it a few times in the air and then secured possession before returning it 23 yards. Running back Hassan Haskins rumbled into the end zone four plays later.
