Man City latest on Erling Haaland as Pep Guardiola offers Brighton fitness update

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines for Tuesday, April 19.

City staying quiet on Erling Haaland transfer latest

Manchester City are refusing to comment on claims that Erling Haaland has agreed terms on a £500,000-a-week deal to join them this summer. The Blues are closing on a deal for the 21-year-old striker, who is understood to want to move to the Etihad Stadium, and the transfer fee is a formality, with his Borussia Dortmund contract including a £64million release clause which City are willing to meet.

City have been pushing hard to get a deal done, and with Bayern Munich admitting defeat and sources at Real Madrid privately accepting they are fighting a losing battle to land the Norway international, they are very much in the driving seat. One report on Tuesday claimed that the Blues have come to an agreement with Haaland and his agent Mino Raiola, which would involve Haaland becoming the top earner at the club on a five-year deal.

City sources stuck to their usual policy of not commenting on transfer speculation but made it plain that the claims had not originated from them.

Guardiola offers fitness update ahead of Brighton

Pep Guardiola will again be without Kyle Walker for the Premier League clash with Brighton tomorrow night and is sweating on the fitness of three more stars. Manchester City will need a win to stay top of the table if Liverpool avoid defeat to Manchester United tonight.

Walker still had his leg in a protective boot at the weekend after damaging his ankle in last week’s draw at Atletico Madrid, and is already ruled out against the Seagulls. He has not been ruled out of Saturday’s clash with Watford, but Guardiola says the prognosis will become clearer in the next day or two.

The other injury issues seem to be resolving themselves, with Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias and Ilkay Gundogan – who was only fit enough for the bench at Wembley – all expected to be in the mix for the Etihad Stadium clash. City will be looking to take a step closer to retaining their Premier League crown when the Seagulls visit.
