Love Island viewers said they ‘felt sick’ after Manchester’s Italian heartthrob made the ‘awkward’ decision on which girl he wanted to couple up with. Davide Sanclimenti turned heads when he entered the Spanish villa late on Monday evening.
At the end of the second episode of the season, the 27-year-old business owner, originally from Rome but now living in Manchester, decided to couple up with Gemma. That meant he split up her up from Liam, in a decision that left viewers commenting on the age gap between the two.
@idyllicjin said: “davide chose gemma i feel sick”, as @eunwooleighanne tweeted: “davide’s picked gemma, i feel sick.”
@RyanJL74 said: “lmao Gemma didn’t even give Liam a second thought once Davide said her name”
@fionamcnamaraxx tweeted: “Anyone else think Gemma and Davide are gonna be so toxic? They are both so full of themselves” and @BibiLodge said: “nono Gemma is 19 and Davide is 27.”
@furtamente said: “does Davide know Gemma’s age?” and @harajubarbz said: “already know gemma and davide gonna be like the most awkward couple.”
In a twist, the show saw the first coupling of the series decided by the public, unbeknown to the contestants. But following a recoupling on Tuesday night, newcomer Davide swooped in and paired up with Gemma.
Davide pulled the 19-year-old for a chat at the firepit earlier in the show, where he told her he ‘liked confident girls’. Gemma admitted she was ‘old fashioned’ and wanted guys to ‘make the first move’.
Following their chat, @irene_damian said: “Davide and gemma irritate me” as @Daniellaaa__x tweeted: “I’m sorry but it’s so awkward watching Gemma and Davide together.”
On Monday, when the contestants played a round of dares, Gemma was tasked to kiss the boy she fancied the most and planted a kiss on Italian bombshell Davide before confessing that Davide is exactly ‘her type on paper’. The international dressage rider and business owner sparked chaos during episode one amongst viewers after she shocked them and her fellow Islanders with her age.
Liam Llewellyn, a 22-year-old student from Newport, had initially been paired up with Gemma Owen, daughter of former England footballer Michael Owen, following a public vote.
