High-risk sex offender back in custody: Vancouver police


Tony Okanase has been re-arrested by Vancouver police after a community policing volunteer spotted him in the city’s Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood Saturday afternoon.

High-risk offender Tony Okanase has been re-arrested by Vancouver police after a community policing volunteer spotted him in the city’s Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood Saturday afternoon.

Okanase, 39, who was wanted Canada-wide since Friday, was released from Mountain Institution, reported to a halfway house in Vancouver but then checked out and wasn’t heard from or seen.

Okanase has a history of violent sexual offences against strangers dating back to 2003 and is deemed a high risk to the public.

VPD patrol officers arrested him without incident.
