Bafana Bafana in tricky Afcon 2023 qualifiers with Zimbabwe & Morocco


The draw for 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers was conducted in Johannesburg on Tuesday, and Bafana Bafana are in a very tough group.

There are 12 groups divided into four teams – only the top two teams from each group will qualify for the Afcon finals in Ivory Coast.

Now, Hugo Broos’ men are in Group K alongside Zimbabwe, Liberia and Morocco in what is definitely a tricky group for them.

Bafana Bafana were in the same group as Zimbabwe for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and they didn’t have it easy.

Morocco, who last won the Afcon trophy in 1976, have been consistent in qualifying for the Afcon finals over the years.

And for that reason, they will be considered strong favourites to qualify for the continental showpiece in Ivory Coast.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will release the fixtures, dates venues for the qualifiers which are set to get underway in June 2022.
