AmaZulu are reportedly desperate to land a Mamelodi Sundowns coach as Benni McCarthy’s long-term successor in KwaZulu-Natal.
McCarthy’s record tenure at Usuthu turned sour last month when he was abruptly fired by the Durban based side and according to new reports, Steve Komphela is the club’s ideal replacement!
AmaZulu announced the arrival of Brandon Truter as Benni McCarthy’s replacement until the end of the season however rumour has it that current Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach Steve Komphela is being head-hunted by president Sandile Zungu.
AmaZulu after Mamelodi Sundowns coach?
“A source has revealed that Steve Komphela is the favourite to land the plump AmaZulu job in Durban.” a Citizen report read regarding the Mamelodi Sundowns coach.
“He is no stranger to the city having spent a few years there as coach of Golden Arrows who he turned into a competitive side with young players.”
“AmaZulu have received so many CVs even from outside the country. I am not sure if Steve Komphela also sent his CV or if they are head hunting him, but he is a firm favourite with the club’s management,” an insider told the same publication.
Usuthu confirm search beyond Truter is on!
“AmaZulu FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Brandon Truter as interim head coach with immediate effect until the end of the current 2021/2022 season,” a club statement read last month.
“We look forward to competing in the league for the remaining seven games. The search for the head coach to lead the team beyond this season has commenced and should be finalised before the end of April.”
