A-Maye-zing! Elon Musk’s mom covers Sports Illustrated at 74 [photos]

Maye Musk – the mother of the world’s richest man – Elon Musk – has made her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit debut, at the age of 74!

The Canadian-born model, who moved to Pretoria, South Africa as a toddler, made history as the oldest woman to make the cover of the 2022 swimsuit edition.

Maye is mom to Elon Musk as well as son Kimbal and daughter Tosca. She joins the likes of Kim Kardashian, Ciara, and Yumi Nu as swimsuit models for 2022. The septuagenarian has been in the modeling industry for over 50 years and is the author of the memoir A Woman Makes a Plan: Advice for a Lifetime of Adventure, Beauty, and Success.

But whilst she’s considered an industry veteran, the decision to cover the coveted publication caught Maye by surprise.

She told Good Morning America: “I’m not a swimsuit model. So so to be even invited to do the shoot was amazing, and then they showed me the cover and I said: ‘Wow’”.

The silver-haired siren – who was a Miss SA finalist in 1969 – is hoping her feature will inspire other women.

She told People magazine: “I do think it’s going to make women feel more comfortable in their seventies when they swim, as well as women in their twenties and thirties. When women go to the beach, we’re kind of shy about our bodies, but men will walk around, looking terrible, and they don’t care. I think we have to not care that much!”

Maye also revealed she kept the news from her son Elon Musk and her other children. She added: “I did not tell them. They would tweet it out.”

Before Maye, Kathy Jacobs was the oldest model to be featured in the swimsuit issue at the age of 57 years old.

Maye Musk, who married SA engineer Errol Musk in 1970, claimed she raised her three children as a single mom after the couple divorced in 1979.

But things were difficult, and money was tight, claims Maye. She told Huffington Post: “After my divorce, I had to house and feed three kids without maintenance.

“Poverty makes you work really hard. I remember crying when one of my kids spilled milk. The saying goes ‘don’t cry over spilled milk.’ I cried because I couldn’t buy another milk that day.”

Elon and the rest of his family emigrated to Canada in 1989 and eventually settled in the US. Since then, Elon Musk and Maye developed an undeniable bond from their past experiences with the latter often accompanying her famous son at red carpet events.
